Remedy Entertainment's horror survival game Alan Wake 2 has pushed back its release date by 10 days, possibly to bypass the competition that's scheduled in the fall calendar. A sequel to 2010's Alan Wake, the game was set to be released on October 17 for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. Its release has been delayed by 10 days; Alan Wake 2 will now release on October 27 and the game will be featured at the Opening Night Live of the upcoming Gamescom convention on August 22 where fans can expect to get a glimpse into the gameplay.
“October is an amazing month for game launches and we hope this date shift gives more space for everyone to enjoy their favorite games,” Remedy Entertainment wrote on X. “We can’t wait to show you what everyone’s favorite novelist is up to in the Dark Place next week. Thanks for your patience!”

Alan Wake 2 To Be Featured in Gamescom 2023's Opening Night
Alan Wake 2 was set to launch the same week as the much-waited PlayStation exclusive Spider-Man 2 which is set to release on October 20. Microsoft’s Forza Motorsport (October 10), Nintendo's Detective Pikachu Returns (October 6) and Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage (October 5) are three other two heavy-hitters scheduled to release in October. Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Sega’s Sonic Superstars are also set to release during the month.
October also sees the launch of some other smaller titles such as River City: Rival Showdown (October 12), Cities: Skylines 2, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 (both October 24), The Caligula Effect 2 (October 17), Endless Dungeon (October 19), Alone in the Dark (October 25) and Head Bangers: Rhythm Royale (October 31). Back in 2010, the launch sales of the first Alan Wake suffered due to launching in the same week as Rockstar’s hit Red Dead Redemption.
In May, fans expressed outrage at Remedy's reveal that Alan Wake 2 would be a digital-only release across all platforms. "For one, a large number of players have shifted to digital only. You can buy a Sony PlayStation 5 without a disc drive and Microsoft’s Xbox Series S is a digital-only console. It is not uncommon to release modern games as digital-only," the company explained in a FAQ.
"Secondly, not releasing a disc helps keep the price of the game at $59.99 / €59.99 and the PC version at $49.99 / €49.99. Finally, we did not want to ship a disc product and have it require a download for the game — we do not think this would make for a great experience either." The horror survival game will have two playable characters, Alan Wake and Saga Anderson. Alan Wake 2 takes place 13 years after the in-game events of Alan Wake and is set in the present day. It follows Alan Wake as he once again attempts to escape the Dark Place and FBI agent Saga Anderson, who arrives at Bright Falls to investigate a series of ritualistic murders — one of which includes former FBI agent Robert Nightingale.
