Keeping your phone aside at bedtime might be one of the toughest things to do, but as most of us know, late-night scrolling can seriously hamper your sleeping habits. This is the reason so many smartphones nowadays come with some sort of Digital Wellbeing app, such as the one Google offers. This feature helps users fight it by using a "bedtime mode" feature.
Every OEM has a similar feature, but the most helpful are the ones that come with additional options to not just quiet the phone down, but also adjust the screen settings to minimize blue light exposure.

Android 15 To Make Bedtime Mode More Powerful
Now, Mishaal Rahman has teamed up with folks at Android Authority to find out that Android 15 will make bedtime mode more efficient and useful. As of now, Google’s Digital Wellbeing is the only app that can change certain screen settings to minimize distractions. With the new OS update, third-party apps will get the same ability, paving the way for developers to create customized sleep routines made to users’ specific needs.
Google’s version of bedtime mode, which can be seen within the Digital Wellbeing app’s settings, lets users create a fixed schedule or trigger the mode when the phone is in charging mode after a certain time. Once active, the bedtime mode can switch to “Do Not Disturb,” silencing distraction while making sure important calls or alarms still get through. Users can also tweak the screen by going grayscale, activating dark mode, switching off the always-on display, and dimming the wallpaper.
As of now, Android lets third-party apps create “Do Not Disturb” schedules, but those same apps won’t be able to access most screen-altering options. With the latest update, Android 15 will include the ZenDeviceEffects API, enabling external apps toggle things such as dark mode, grayscale, reduced screen brightness, and suppressing ambient noise.

Will The Feature Appear In The Final Version of Android 15?
Tasker, a famous Android automation app, is already trying out these new sleep-focused features. The expanded access will make for more fine-tuned control. It is a bedtime routine that is not triggered by time but by tapping the phone on an NFC tag.
As noted by the source, since Google launched the ZenDeviceEffects API in a public blog post upon the release of Android 15 Developer Preview 2, it seems likely that the feature would be available before Android 15’s full release. However, it’s possible that more changes will be made to the feature, especially with some features such as the dark mode toggle not available yet.
