Apex Legends will host its first-ever crossover event with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The FFVII event will replace the unranked battle royale. The event brings new abilities and a devastating Limit Break. One can find Materia Hop-Ups and use effects like Lightning. The event also brings new Final Fantasy VII Rebirth-inspired skins for Legends like Wattson, Crypto, and Wraith.
Gamers can collect 36 event items, including the new Death Box and Mythic Buster Sword R5 Melee cosmetics. One can equip these cosmetics on any Legend and in any mode. Respawn also stated that, unlike other Collection Events, there's a chance to get the Buster Sword R5 with every pack. The event will commence on January 9, 2024, and run until January 30, 2024.

Apex Legends Final Fantasy VII Crossover Event Cosmetics and More Explored
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth takeover in Apex Legends will add new features to the unranked BR, introducing new content familiar to the Final Fantasy universe. Gamers can wield the power of a Buster Sword R2R5, which will modify the melee inspired by Cloud's weapon from the game. The melee will also unlock gameplay abilities that can be collected from the map.
The melee will grant access to light and heavy attacks, mixing blocking and dash to reduce damage taken and close the gap with enemies. Other abilities include filling the meter to use the iconic Limit Break from Cloud's arsenal.
While hunting for the colossal weapon on the map, one can look for Materia Hop-Ups for increasing effects and bonuses. Each Hop-Up delivers effects for select weapons and spawns in the world during the event.
The list of Materia Hop-Ups is as follows:
- Blue Materia (HP Absorb): Damage enemies to heal yourself
- Green Materia (Lightning): Reload an empty weapon to emit a shock nova, damaging and slowing nearby enemies
- Purple Materia (Crit Rate Up): Random criticals provide extra damage
- Red Materia (Summon): Summon a Nessie companion to attack your foes
- Yellow Materia (Assess): Damage enemies to see their remaining health
