Activision has unveiled the official gameplay trailer for Call Of Duty Modern Warfare III during the Opening Night Live of Gamescom. The game is a direct sequel to last year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and will arrive on November 10, across PlayStation, Xbox consoles and PC. The game released a baddie reveal trailer a few days ago, spotlighting the franchise's OG nationalist villain Vladimir Makarov's new avatar. Geoff Keighley and Shelby Carleton of Sledgehammer Games introduced the campaign reveal trailer and also mentioned the much-awaited free-form Open Combat Missions (OCM).
In the newest title, the OCMs are designed like open-ended objectives, featuring multiple approaches that depend on player choice, from stealth to run-and-gun action. The nearly nine-minute trailer opens with the first level of the game, an underwater task, named Operation 627 which follows the Alpha Team into an enemy compound where they have to use various equipment to infiltrate the Zordaya Prison Complex, which is in Verdansk.
CoD: Modern Warfare III Plays Up Verdansk In A Big Way
There was a lot of chatter surrounding Verdansk, the city in Kastovia which has served as the main setting for the Special Ops operations and Ground War maps of Modern Warfare and was also the original battleground for Call of Duty: Warzone. CoD leaker CharlieIntel had confirmed that the Modern Warfare 3 campaign will feature the location and the last trailer shows a plane crashing into Verdansk’s stadium (with fans speculating that it will tie in with the No Russian mission) "While familiar, Verdansk will be seen from a new perspective in Modern Warfare 3's campaign: in the year 2023, a new threat completely locked down this capital of Kastovia," Activision said.
The new gameplay reveal trailer offers immaculate cinematic visuals which enhance the classic special-ops activities and small, close-quarter combat situations. The much-talked-about multiplayer and zombie modes were briefly mentioned during ONL but were not part of the Gamescom showcase. Some early details on Modern Warfare 3's Zombies mode have been revealed in the past weeks. And it turns out that this mode will enable multiple squads to team up against undead hordes in open-world PvE missions which will take players across different regions as part of a story focusing on Dark Aether Zombies.
More details on the zombie modes and the core maps are expected to drop at the showcase event scheduled to be held on November 5. All PC versions for CoD are available for pre-purchase via Battle.net or Steam.
