After almost four years, iD Software is back with another entry for one of their beloved franchises. DOOM: The Dark Ages was announced at the Xbox Games Showcase this year, with the series going back in time as Doom Slayer enters the medieval setting. The medieval setting for the game will be putting the popular Slayer in the beginning of the lore of the DOOM, where he is seen fighting Demons and enemies from back in time. One could say it is a prequel with a setting that the franchise never explored. While both DOOM and DOOM: Eternal gave players hints on this spin-off, the Dark Ages will finally show fans how the title will look.

DOOM: The Dark Ages Is Coming to Xbox, PC, and PlayStation 5
DOOM: The Dark Ages is set to explore the past of Doom Slayer with a medieval take, as the recent trailer has announced that it will showcase him as the 'weapon of gods and kings.' Moreover, DOOM: The Dark Ages will bring a ton of gameplay implementation as also shown in the Xbox Games Showcase. The title is confirmed to arrive on the Xbox Series X, including the Xbox Game Pass on Day One, Microsoft Windows, and the PlayStation 5.
The title is bringing major changes to the gameplay loop of the DOOM series, as the title will also let players fly a dragon, as shown in the recent trailer. Moreover, weapons like the Chainsaw Shield and Crossbow with skulls are also an exciting part of the combat. The Doom Slayer can now bash through enemies with newer weapons, and gorier animations, which is the highlight of the series' gameplay since its release.
As of now, the more specific parts of the plot for DOOM: The Dark Ages are still unknown; however, the trailer delivers a general idea of the story that fans will enjoy. Famous weapons like the double-barreled sawed-off shotgun are back, with the Doom Slayer getting a new look for his outfit with a cape attached.
At the moment, the upcoming DOOM title is expected to come out in 2025. However, gamers will have to wait for an official release date from iD Software. The Dark Ages will be a unique entry to the franchise, as no other game in the series has explored this era before.
