Free Fire developer Garena announced they will be moving all the Free Fire India servers to Mumbai as they attempt to launch the game in the country after the ban. In September 2023 Garena announced the game would be getting re-launched in the country as Free Fire India with Mahender Singh Dhoni as the brand ambassador. However, there hasn't been an update about the status of the game since then.

Garena To Set Free Fire India Servers In Mumbai
According to a report by Economics Times, Garena is working very closely with Yotta to localise the game's servers in Mumbai, India. The report stated:
Yotta is working with Garena's HQ (headquarter) team on testing the server, which is showing high throughput required for handling streaming workloads with least redundancy. It is important that performance metrics are adequately tested before the game goes to market because esports tournaments put many ecosystem players at stake and therefore should be devoid of any technical snags.
Free Fire was banned in India in 2022 along with many other Chinese Apps. The reason cited by the Indian governments was the security concerns, and this time, this is the factors Garena is looking to tackle. In the same report by Economics Times, Garena said:
Free Fire India will feature a fully localized infrastructure tailored to meet the needs and requirements of the authorities and our stakeholders in India.
Ahead of the launch, the developers are also focusing on catering to the other demands that are set forth by the Indian government, which includes an agreement that data will not leave the country. These efforts to localise the data of the people is a step in the favour of the Indian gaming community and a player base of millions that have been waiting for the game's return.
It was initially announced that the game would release on September 5, 2023. An announcement soon followed that the game would be delayed for a short while because of the time localisation is taking. However, the game was de listed from Google Play Store because it failed to meet the 90-day pre-registration policy, which is set by Google for all the apps it onboards.
