FromSoftware's legendary Soulsborne title, Elden Ring, has taken over the gaming world once more with the recent announcement of its Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. However, amidst the hype, gamers still wonder if the Elden Ring Crossplay support exists.
Like the previous Souls games, creator Hidetaka Miyazaki has included the beloved player summoning and arena mode features where one can play against or with randoms or friends. However, the crossplay and cross-platform support for the game works much differently than one would imagine.

Elden Ring Crossplay and Cross-gen Support Status in 2024
Elden Ring Crossplay support unfortunately does not exist so far, even after its release in 2022. One cannot roam the Lands Between or fight bosses in the world if their friends are in from another console or platform. This is mainly because even the previous Soulsborne games, including Dark Souls III, and Bloodborne also did not incorporate the Crossplay feature.
While many new fans assume that the DLC may bring the long-asked feature, it is unlikely that FromSoftware will incorporate a Crossplay feature in the game. But that said, gamers can still summon players and friends to their world from the same platform and defeat the toughest bosses like Malenia.
Cross-Gen Support for Elden Ring
Unlike Crossplay, which means the allowance of playing with another player from a different console or platform, Cross-gen is a simpler and less restrictive feature where console gamers can play with a friend with the same family of consoles. Meaning, one owning a PlayStation 4 can play with a PlayStation 5 gamer, and Xbox Series X/S gamers can play with one owning Xbox One.
Surprisingly, Elden Ring does support the Cross-gen feature. These features mean console gamers can easily enjoy the bosses and PvP features of the game with another gamer using the same family of their console. However, for PC gamers, this feature is not the most useful one, as they still cannot play with anyone playing Elden Ring on consoles. With the DLC just around the corner, gamers are expecting more PvP features with polished gameplay and net code from the developers. Shadow of the Erdtree is undoubtedly one of the most hyped expansions in the recent gaming scene and for a good reason. FromSoftware has always delivered on their extra content since the very first Dark Souls game. It is yet to see what the expansion brings to the table.
