NetherRealm's Mortal Kombat 1 just unveiled four more characters during the Gamescom Opening Night Live; the line-up includes two playable fighters, the Empress Sindel and General Shao, and two new Kameo characters, Motaro and Shujinko. The fighting game had revealed characters like Ashrah, Havik and a redesigned Reptile during EVO 2023, earlier this month. These characters will join the likes of Geras, Sektor, Cyrax, Frost, and Scorpion.
The reboot will also feature The Kombat Pack, which includes guest characters like Omni-Man and Homelander who will be featured in Mortal Kombat 1’s Premium Edition as DLC. Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled to release on September 19. The newest character trailer draws focus on the Outworlds and also the Earthrealm champion, Raiden. The 3:44-minute trailer teases some intense moments of conflict and tension between the characters, alongside an in-depth look at some of the fighting styles.
Mortal Kombat 1 Gets Big Ups For Fluid And Tighter Gameplay
"We will destroy your champion, Liu Kang," Motaro tells Liu Kang, about Raiden. "He will taste not victory." General Shao, who's a victor of the Tavarian War, gets some excellent combat sequences. He wields a two-handed battle axe and gets into some bloody fights with Raiden and the white-haired empress Sindel, who gets a re-imagined avatar for the game.
Raiden too shows off his combat styles in the new video. The once Elder God, now Earthrealm champion uses some OG moves for his combats, like the 'Displacer' which teleports him, making it difficult for his opponent to pin him down, or the lightning traps which are like lightning strikes. Mortal Kombat 1 will launch on September 19 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch, and early access will begin on September 14 if you preorder one of its special editions.
Mortal Kombat 1 had a successful closed beta run this week and was praised for its fluid gameplay. Players also appreciated the new mechanic which lets secondary characters assist the fighters which actually makes a difference in the combat.
