According to a new report from a Chinese peripheral manufacturer, the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will be a conservative hardware evolution over the first-generation device.
Chinese manufacturer Mobapad, in a recently shared Facebook post, revealed some added information about the upcoming console by Nintendo. The console, as per the report, will offer support for both Pro and Joy-Con controllers along with an HD rumble (ALPS dual-axis linear motor). However, the size of the new Joy-Con controller will be smaller than before.
While the current Joy-Con controllers will work fine with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, it won’t be possible to attach them in the handheld mode. That’s because the new console will come with a horizontal magnetic docking system, which will only be compatible with the new controllers.

Will The Nintendo Switch 2 Be Backward Compatible?
Speaking of backward compatibility, Mobapad noted that the upcoming console will be fully backward compatible with both physical and digital versions of the original Switch games. The Switch 2 will also feature a USB-C port for docking, which will work seamlessly with a new generation of docks featuring minor design upgrades, such as a metal bracket for improved angle adjustments.
Previous rumors suggested that the console’s screen would be a bit bigger than that of the original console and support 1080p resolution. Mobapad believes that the Nintendo Switch 2 is a conservative evolution in terms of hardware, similar to the Pro version of the original console instead of being a complete overhaul. But that might not be all bad, as the new console will retain compatibility with the original without compromising on the gaming experience.
While it’s recommended to take the new info with a pinch of salt, it’s interesting to note how this report surfaced online before the latest report from Vandal. With multiple manufacturers unearthing info about the console, it seems the launch is not too far. The Nintendo Switch 2. The console is said to break cover in early 2025.

How Will The New Joy-Con Connect To Switch 2?
There is no photo evidence on how the new Joy-Con controllers will connect to the console. However, we’ve seen magnetic controllers come with the MSI Claw - a gaming handheld that challenges Valve’s Steam Deck. That said, it won’t be a surprise if Nintendo brings a similar functionality to the Switch 2.
But will magnets alone be able to hold the Joy-Con to the display? This means the current generation Joy-Con controllers will have a tough time working with the Switch 2. If reports prove to be true then Joy-Con won’t be able to attach to the upcoming console physically, but they can connect wirelessly.
