As the LCS Grand Finals draw closer, the matches are getting spicier than ever. NRG Esports, one of the most underrated teams in the 2023 LCS, secured their Worlds 2023 slot alongside Cloud9. Earlier this year, NRG acquired the Counter Logic Gaming roster and made some changes in the team while keeping the CLG core of Dhokla, Palafox, and Contractz.
During the post-game interview, Niship “Dhokla” Doshi claimed how happy he is to finally make it to an international event. What makes it even crazier is the fact that it's not just any international event but Worlds, the most prestigious LoL tournament in the official circuit.

NRG Esports Secures Worlds 2023 Slot By Taking Down Golden Guardians
As mentioned above, Counter Logic Gaming parted ways with its LCS roster earlier this year. NRG Esports, one of the most famous esports organizations in North America bought out the roster, which also marked their return to the LCS after almost a decade. Under the label of Counter Logic, the roster did put up an intense fight against other contender teams in the NA region but unfortunately, they could never make the cut for an international event. Even this year during the Spring Split, NRG ended up placing fourth and could not make it to the Mid Season Invitational.
During MSI, Golden Guardians (GG) and Cloud9 represented North America. While GG did put up a strong performance against LPL’s Bilibili Gaming and took a map off them, they ultimately lost the series with a 1-2 scoreline. During the regular season, NRG Esports demonstrated great potential by defeating giants like Cloud9 and Liquid. However, the stakes are higher at playoffs and fans were not ready to digest the fact that NRG would stomp a team like GG who fields players like Stixxay and Licorice.
As a matter of fact, Dhokla seemed to have an upper hand over Licorice, despite the latter making it to All-Pro 2023. What’s even more incredible is that NRG’s drafts were a bit unstable according to some streamers and analysts. NRG will now be going up against North America’s long-time Champions, Cloud9. Moving forward, fans are excited to see who will be the first team to secure the LCS Summer 2023 Grand Finals spot.
