Roblox will be available on PlayStation soon. At its 2023 Roblox Developers Conference (RDC) on Friday, Roblox announced that its popular gaming platform is coming to PS4 and PS5 in October. Roblox is already available on PC, Mac, iOS, Android, and Xbox but not on Sony's consoles. In 2022 Roblox dropped a job listing for a PlayStation engineer. Roblox will also make its app fully available on Meta’s Quest mixed reality devices this month after a test version came out in July and got over a million installs in the first five days.
Roblox Chief Product Officer Manuel Bronstein told Reuters, that the expansion is part of Roblox's plan to make the platform available "anywhere users are trying to use it," including mobile, desktop and augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) devices.

It is a key move on Roblox's part as it has been shoring up its position as one of the most widely-used gaming platforms globally. In 2020 Roblox told Bloomberg two-thirds of all US children between the ages of nine and 12 use the app. A Statista survey of 400,000 UK children conducted that same year found Roblox to be a lot more popular than its rival Minecraft with 67% of children saying they play Roblox, as opposed to just 23% who said they played Minecraft.
However, Roblox is also trying to sell to young adults as the company announced early this year that it is already planning to include mature content for 17+ users. Robox is also releasing a world-building chatbox called Roblox Assistant that uses generative AI to help plan builds, write code and create virtual assets. The platform also announced a new animated video-calling product set to launch later this year. Users can dial up a friend who also uses Roblox and start a virtual hangout in the new product, called Roblox Connect. The product will weave in Roblox’s existing avatars, voice chat and camera-based facial animations.
