Many players were not aware of the upgrade that Naughty Dog put out during the Remastered's release. The upgrade allows owners of the last-gen version to purchase the PS5 Remastered edition for a fee.
However, Sony also gave out an option to purchase the new game if one did not own the previous-gen edition. As many mistakenly purchased The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered Edition despite owning the PS4 version, Sony has begun automatic refunds to the gamers who bought the new version at full price.
A message sent to the players from Naughty Dog and Sony reads that the digital upgrade to the PS5 digital version will be available at a discounted price on the launch day for The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. In the message, Sony also stated that they don't want players to lose out on the opportunity, and as a good gesture, they are refunding the whole purchase for the PS5 pre-order version.
Gamers are happy with this generous act from Sony as many of them were unaware of this upgrade in the first place. Moreover, the upgrade incorporates everything one can expect from the Remastered version. The only catch is that gamers will have to own the PS4 version to upgrade it.
