The Pokemon Company To Investigate Palworld
In a statement released by them, The Pokemon Company said they will be investigating the game that was released in January 2024 and that they did not permit anyone to use their intellectual property or game assets.
We have received many inquiries regarding another company’s game released in January 2024. We have not granted any permission for the use of Pokémon intellectual property or assets in that game. We intend to investigate and take appropriate measures to address any acts that infringe on intellectual property rights related to the Pokémon. We will continue to cherish and nurture each and every Pokémon and its world, and work to bring the world together through Pokémon in the future.
Before The Pokemon Company released their statement, Pocketpair had talked about the game and insisted that it was much more like Ark Survival Evolved and not like Pokemon, but the fans who played the game have called it similar to Pokemon but has guns and borderline dark themes where the players can sell or buy Pals.
Since the game was launched on January 19, 2024, Palworld has sold over 8 million copies and was also the second-most-played game in 24 hours on Steam. The game had also got over 1 million concurrent players playing the game on Steam. This explosive launch to the game has brought about a lot of attention to the developers and the game. So much so, that the Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe said that they had their legal reviewing team look into the game to find similarities and in an interview with Automaton, he asked the players to look past the rumours and give the game a fair chance.
