Ever since Grand Theft Auto VI's announcement, many data miners and fans have been working on the GTA 6 mapping project, to get an idea of Rockstar's upcoming title's map layout and assets. As Grand Theft Auto VI is taking fans back to Vice City, gamers expect a lot of references and homage to the legendary GTA Vice City which was released in 2002. Fans like r/Competitive_Tear8407 on Reddit have made a lot of progress in mapping out the layout of GTA 6. While the GTA 6 mapping project mostly consists of predictions and assumptions, gamers are still expecting some similarities when the game comes out.

GTA 6 Mapping Project by Fans is Garnering a Lot of Attention
The GTA 6 mapping project is essentially the title's map being predicted by the fanbase in terms of how it will look, what assets it will incorporate, and more. A user by the tag of Competitive_Tear8407 on Reddit has started making his mapping progress for the game, by adding in assets and comparing it with the older games in the franchise, mostly Vice City. The user in question is a mapper as well, as stated in their post.
The goal of the mapping project community is to map GTA 6's entire landmass before it is released in 2025. The mapping is mostly done through new information, the first official trailer for the game, and leaked game event lists. So far, the mapping project consists of pretty solid data; however, none of the information is official, as mentioned in the post as well.
How Does the GTA 6 Mapping Project Work?
User Competitive_Tear8407 on Reddit has listed the basics of how the GTA 6 Mapping Project is progressing. For starters, the mappers calculate the coordinates and RAGE Units of the map using the International System of Units (SI). A bit of complicated mathematics is involved in mapping measurements in the RAGE engine used by Rockstar Games. The mappers then proceed to map buildings by finding their real-life counterparts. This task uses Google Earth data, as it helps identify a building and gives mappers a general idea regarding its location in Miami/Florida.
This is mostly an easier task, as Grand Theft Auto games usually use real-life places. Positioning of the building is also important to find the correct measurements. A lot of the buildings and assets were leaked earlier in 2022, which helped the mappers continue their progress. The next step in the GTA 6 mapping project is to map the landmass. A fan named DuPz0rs has already mapped an area by using legends. However, about 90% of the map's borders are still incomplete. As they are not known to the wide fanbase, mappers are still working on the project to know more about the landmass.
The progress so far has been extraordinary for the mappers, as they have figured out how enormous the map will be. The east side of the map is nearly complete, with a small island present on the right of the full map. The GTA 6 mapping project community is still working on the map, waiting on more trailers from Rockstar Games and information on the title's setting.
