WhatsApp has announced the rollout of a “Favorites” filter for chats and calls. It is essentially a new filter wherein users can park all their favorite contacts for quick access without necessitating a contacts search or scrolling through the endless list of active chats and recent call logs.
The feature is being rolled out in a graded manner and will be rolled out in the coming weeks across platforms, including Android and iOS apps, web clients, and desktop apps. Meta-owned instant messaging platform stated that the “favorites” filter will allow users to find the people and groups that matter most at the top of their calls tab and as a filter for chats.
Favorites are set directly from the dedicated filter, called “Favorites,” visible alongside the existing filters -- all unread, and groups. That said, there are four options to filter chats now. In the calls tab, the option to add a favorite has been available on top of the calls log.

How To Use WhatsApp Favorite Filter
In order to add favorites, users need to select the favorites filter from the chats screen and select contacts or groups there. From the calls tab, users need to tap on ‘Add favorite’ and select contacts or groups. To manage favorites, users need to go to Settings > Favorites > Add to Favorites, and users can reorder them.
Besides, WhatsApp is exploring a Google Pixel-like transcription feature for voice messages. This feature is said to be powered by Meta AI. Recently, WhatsApp update tracking platform WABetaInfo reported that the platform has started testing this feature, which will enable users to see a textual transcription of a voice note sent to them.

WhatsApp’s Will Prevent Users From Joining Unknown Groups
WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that will keep users by giving them more information about a group before joining it. That means the next time someone users don’t know adds users to a WhatsApp group, users will be shown additional details such as who added them, when the group was created, and who created it.
The Meta-owned platform said that this specific user safety feature is intended to help someone make a more informed decision on whether or not it’s a group that they are aware of or want to be a part of.
“It is particularly helpful if you just met someone or a group of people, and haven’t yet saved them in your contacts,” WhatsApp said in a press release.
