Rumors Suggest Riot Games Will Be Adding A Third International Tournament From 2024
In the latest episode of “Last Free Nation,” caster-turned-content creator MonteCristo claimed that Riot will be implementing the LEC-style format to all the regions so that they can create space for a third international event.
Currently, League hosts only two international tournaments: The Mid-Season Invitational, aka MSI, and the ultimate concluding tournament, aka Worlds. Earlier this year, Riot Games introduced the three-split-system for LEC where the season will be divided into three subcategories: Winter, Spring, and Summer.
Previously, fans were made aware of the fact that LCS, the competitive LoL circuit will be following LEC’s footsteps. However, now it is possible that all the major regions competing in the game will have to follow the three-split system to create room for the yet unknown, third international event.
The change in format will herald a huge shift in the competitive ecosystem of the game. Riot is yet to make a comment about the “new international tournament” rumor. Generally, the Spring split is followed by MSI, and the Summer split is followed by Worlds. Fans are yet to be addressed about the rumors that are surfacing in the world of League of Legends, now. Aside from MonteCristo's claims, no other information has surfaced.
