3 years into the PS5 life cycle, fans are on pins and needles, just waiting on Sony to unveil their plans for a hardware refresh in the form of a PS5 Pro or a Slim. While Sony hasn't revealed much in the way of any substantial information, there have been whispers and rumours about a PS5 Pro apparently in the works.
A new report from Key to Gaming suggests that the console is being worked on under the codename 'Trinity'. This naming convention seems to line up with previous Sony products as they are known to use codenames from the Matrix franchise (see Project Morpheus). The alleged hardware details of the PS5 Pro seem to be hinting at a pretty massive upgrade, featuring 18,000 MT/s memory and 30 WGP (workgroup processor). According to the report, Sony is looking at a November 2024 release window.
The standout bit of performance however comes through it being able to output high frames per second at 4K, and a new preset mode that outputs 8K resolution with accelerated ray tracing.

Does Anyone Really Need a PS5 Pro Right Now?
The PS5 has been one of the oddest console launches in gaming history, through no fault of Sony themselves. The console generation in its entirety breaks convention in a big way that despite the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 having been out for 3 years, it only just feels like they are actually readily available for purchase.
The supply chain issues made it so that it was nearly impossible to get your hands on a PS5 for the majority of its as-of-yet 3-year run. Given that the console game offering has only just gotten to the point where the console looks that much more appealing, the PS5 Pro seems oddly timed. However, there has also been a portion of the fanbase that feels that the new-gen consoles still feel a bit underpowered. It remains to be seen when Sony decides to finally reveal plans for a hardware refresh and how they choose to price it in price-sensitive countries like India.
